John of God is the most documented healer alive today. John of Godtranslated into Portuguese is Joao de Deus which literally translates into English as John of God.
At his healing centre in the middle of Brazil, the Casa de Dom Inacio he has been healing and helping people for over 30 years.
John of God works with deceased spirits and the House where John of God works is the workplace to 100's of 1,000's of spirits. John of God is channeling one of these spirits each day and they haev often been Doctors and Healers whilst alive.

I went today to Barnes and Noble to a book signing of Deborah Santana's book and Carlos was there so I left the film with the publicist and let him know.
One never knows in this world what will happen so it is always good to aim high.
Aristides is preparing 10 of his favourite compositions for us to record when I get there and Banda Fulni-o have 8 new songs.

Thats what they say. Between me and Carlos Santana. Well between me and anyone for that matter. Our 7 minute introductory film 'looking for Carlos' is nearly completed. I am hoping to go see him perform at Madison Square Garden on the 15th June.
I never knew very much about Carlos Santana. I was a wee baby when he started and developed a preference for alternative music. I am rapidly becoming educated and learning that this man is an extraordinary blend of creativity and compassion, a very special mix.
Jeffrey and I have booked our flights and are off to Fulni-o land July 10. We fly to Maceio and drive two hours into the state of Pernambuco.
Here in New York I am enjoying the weather, the food and my air conditioner. Strangley enough, tonight I turned on the TV while I had dinner, something I rarely do - I don't watch TV - and there he was, Carlos Santana on stage with Eric Clapton. I have never seen him play before. It was very synchronistic. I have learnt over the years that those moments are just that - those moments. They don't mean Carlos is about to call me up and pledge allegiance to my Fulni-o flag. But still, it was nice.

É o que dizem. Entre mim e Carlos Santana. Bem, entre mim e qualquer pessoa no mundo, em qualquer caso. Nosso filme introdutório de sete minutos, 'Procurando por Carlos Santana', está quase pronto. Eu espero ver ele tocando no show do dia 15 de Junho, no Madison Square Garden.

Eu nunca soube muita coisa sobre Carlos Santana. Eu era um bebê de fraldas quando ele começou e desenvolveu essa preferência for música alternativa. Mas eu estou me educando rapidamente e aprendendo que esse cara é uma extraordinária mistura de criatividade e compaixão,
uma mistura bem especial. Jeffrey e eu já reservamos nossos vôos e vamos voar pela terra dos
Fulni-ô no dia 10 de julho. A gente aterrissa em Maceió e dirige duas horas até o estado de Pernambuco. Aqui em Nova Yorque, eu estou aproveitando o clima, a comida e meu ar-condicionado.
Estranhamente,nessa noite eu liguei a TV durante o jantar, coisa que eu faço de vez em quando apenas - eu não assisto TV - e lá ele estava, Carlos Santana no palco com Eric Clapton. Eu nunca tinha visto ele tocando antes. Foi tudo muito sincronizado. Eu tenho aprendido com os anos que aqueles momentos foram apenas isso - aqueles momentos. Eu não quero dizer que Carlos está para me ligar a qualquer momento e levantar a minha bandeira dos Fulni-ô. Mas mesmo assim, foi muito bom.

Well, here we are in New York. Jeffrey's flatmate Rogin is doing the wonderful job of editing our five minute funding trailer and a special one for Carlos Santana. I am very excited, and Jeffrey and I are making plans to go in July, fingers crossed. We are looking now at needing funding for Jeffrey's airfare so all donations welcome! I am so happy here in New York and feel so inspired about this story. It really does have everything. Wonderful, talented and charismatic people. They access a powerful spiritual force and they have a pressing need for water. They are all brothers and sisters. There are more of them than the Jacksons!
They deserve to have the opportunity to share their talents and I am determined to do just that.

Well I just spent a week here in Abadiania, Brazil with Aristide, Bolo, Terminio and Daya.
When the trip to SF was cancelled, three days before I was due to arrive in Maceio, they were despondant and wanted to come to Abadiania and work. So now my trip is planned for July instead.
Three of their chiefs were also here. I showed them everything inside my computer that I could manage visually. Videos of wells, underground dams, Jeffrey, and other people who want to help. It is much easier than words.
We had a lot of fun, a party at my house, and I made a short film of their music and rituals.
The trip to San Franciso is back on for next year! I for one am relieved, a whole year to prepare.
I am off to New York next week to edit the footage and search for Carlos Santana, as I feel he would love to play with them and they are big fans.
So Carlos, you are invited to come and meet the Fulni-o whenever you like!

Carlos Santana, por onde você anda?

Bem, eu acabei de passar uma semana aqui em Abadiania, Brasil, com Aristide, Bolo, Terminio e Daya.
Quando a viagem para São Francisco foi cancelada, três dias antes dadata que eu estava para chegar em Maceió, eles ficaram tão chateados com tudo, e queriam vir para Abadiania e trabalhar. Por causa disso,minha viagem agora está remarcada para julho.
Três dos caciques deles estão aqui também. Eu mostrei a eles todos os arquivos em meu computador que eu pude visualizar. Vídeos de barragens, poços artesianos, Jeffrey e outras pessoas que querem ajudar. É muito mais fácil do que usar palavras. Nos nos divertimos um bocado, teve festa em minha casa, e fizemos um curta metragem sobre a música deles e os rituais.
E a viagem para São Francisco foi remarcada para o ano que vem. Eu por minha vez estou aliviada de ter um ano para preparar tudo com calma. Eu estou a caminh de Nova Iorque semana que vem, para editar os filmes
e para procurar Carlos Santana, já que eu acho que ele adoraria tocar com os índios, que por sua vez são grandes fãs. Então Carlos, você está convidado a conhecer os Fulni-ô quando quiser!

Which is how the Indians may well be feeling right now.
The trip is off due to Didiu's accident, it turned out to be more serious than people first thought. He will be fine but needs a few months to recover.
It also was proving to be very complicated to get them there on time and have everything in place in order to benefit them. Preparations can take so long in Brazil.
I am still looking at the possibility of making the film, I feel that the music should be shared - they are an extraordinary family.
I am arriving in Maceio on Tuesday and will see about making the trip to Aguas Belas. I am planning on having a rest by the sea as well!
I feel bad for the family, they were looking forward to going and it is quite a disappointment.

Eu deixei meu coração em São Francisco

É como os índios devem estar sentindo neste exato momento.
A viagem foi cancelada por causa do acidente com Didiu, a coisa é mais séria do que todo mundo pensou num primeiro momento. Ele vai ficar bem, mas precisa de alguns meses para se recuperar.
Também ficou muito complicado levar eles para lá a tempo e estar com tudo pronto para que eles fossem beneficiados com o evento. Preparativos no Brasil podem tomar muito mais tempo...Eu ainda estou pensando na possibilidade de fazer o filme, eu sinto que aquela música deve ser dividida - eles são uma família fora do
comum. Eu chego em Maceió na terça-feira e de lá vou ver se vou para Águas Belas. Eu estou planejando descansar na praia também!
Eu fico triste pela família, eles estavam esperando ansiosamente o dia da viagem e saber que não vão mais é uma grande decepção.

Fulni-o accident

Didiu, the piano playing brother had an accident and fell off his motorbike. He was suffering concussion and very disorientated.
His head was hurt and people were very worried.
Yesterday he played piano again and seems on the up and up.
All the family is pleased and relieved.

Acidente Fulni-o

Didiu, o irmão tocador de piano sofreu um acidente ao cair de sua moto. Ele teve uma concussão e estava muito desorientado.
Ele machucou a cabeça e as pessoas estavam todas preocupadas. Ontem ele tocou piano de novo e parece ir de bem a melhor. E a família esta feliz e aliviada.

Rehearsals are under way

Banda Fulni-o are rehearsing madly for the trip so I hear. They are practicing new songs and making quite a racket in their house. You can hear one of their songs as of today here on the blog.
I am still in London and here, in weather obsessed England I can report mild and balmy and even a blue sky each day.
I am pleased to hear that the water supply that supplies the Fulni-o houses in Aguas Belas is providing enough right now.
Each eight days a pipe is opened and people fill up their tanks. If there is enough coming from the mains, then there is enough to fill the tank.
Excellent, what a difference it must make to life.

Ensaios a todo vapor
Eu ouvi falar que a Banda Fulni-ô está ensaiando loucamente para a viagem. Eles estão praticando novas canções e fazendo o maior barulho dentro de casa. Você pode ouvir uma das canções hoje, no blog.
Eu ainda estou em Londres e aqui, na Inglaterra obsecada pelo clima, eu posso reportar dias agradáveis, e ainda céu azul todos os dias.
Eu estou alegre em saber que a companhia que água que fornece para as casas dos Fulni-ô em Águas Belas está fornecendo o suficiente no momento.
A cada oito dias, o cano é aberto e as pessoas podem encher seus tanques. Se tem suficiente vindo, então os tanques podem ser cheios.
Excelente, que diferença isso deve fazer para a vida.

I'm only happy when it rains

One of the interesting things about drought is that sometimes it rains.
Last year in the North East there were floods in fact, could be a result of El Nino.
Apparently, according to Yvon Maurice of the Canadian Brazilian groundwater project, it is El Nino that dictates the long term course of dought conditions in the North East.
There is a project up there called 5 million cisterns in 5 years, to catch the rain when it does fall. Some people have cisterns that can hold 9.000 litres in their backyard.
The Fulni-o are not eligible for the cistern program because they are connected to a water supply that sometimes works.
When this works the emergency lessens, people relax a little until the drought happens again.
When the drought is very severe a cistern seems like a stupid idea.
When the water table is very dry wells can dry up too.
Last year a Brazilian, Pedro from Rio, dug for three wells but they were unsuccessful.
He used a water diviner which is a great idea in principle, but in the light of this I think a geologist might be better.
There must be surveys in existance that already tell us where water might be where wells could be dug.
When there is no water the Fulni-o go and collect it in trucks called pipas.
I find it fascinating, my Dad is a civil engineer and we had our longest conversation ever about pipes and plumbing. A real bonding experience!

Eu só sou feliz quando chove

Uma das coisas mais interessantes sobre seca é o fato de que, às vezes, chove.
Ano passado, no Nordeste, chegaram a acontecer enchentes, o que pode ter sido resultado do El Niño.
Aparentemente, de acordo com Yvon Maurice, do projeto de lençol d’água canadense-brasileiro , é o El Niño quem dita os longos períodos de secas no Nordeste.
Existe um projeto por lá que construíu 5 milhões de cisternas em cinco anos, para guardar a água da chuva – quando chove. Algumas pessoas têm cisternas com capacidade para 9.000 litros em seus quintais.
Mas os Fulni-ô não são elegíveis para o programa de cisternas por quê eles são conectados por um sistema de fornecimento de água que ás vezes funciona.
Quando ele funciona, a emergência diminui, as pessoas relaxam um pouquinho até que a seca chega de novo. Quando a seca é severa demais, cisternas parecem ser uma idéia estúpida.
Quando o lençól d’água está seco, poços podem secar também.
Ano passado, um brasileiro chamado Pedro, do Rio, cavou três poços, mas eles foram mal-sucedidos. Ele usou uma espécie de varinha advinhadora, que é uma grande idéia, a princípio, mas nesse caso, eu acho que um geologista é melhor.
Devem existir pesquisas que nos digam onde deve haver água, onde poços podem ser cavados.
Quando não há água, os Fulni-ô vão coletá-la dos carros-pipas.
Eu acho isso fascinante. Meu pai é engenheiro civil e nós tivemos a mais longa conversa de nossa história sobre pipas e encanamentos. Uma experiência real.

Freaky water world

Well I already had the exciting water dramas in New York and within a week of being in London a water main burst outside my house. Right outside my door.
No electricity for half the street either.
No water last night, big diggers, flashing lights and a lot of men looking busy.

Bem, eu já tinha excitantes sonhos com água em New York e com uma semana em Londres, um cano de água explode do lado de fora de minha casa. Bem na minha porta.
Não há energia elétrica para a metade da rua.
Não tinha água na noite de ontem, grandes escavadeiras, luzes piscando e um monte de homem com cara de ocupado;

Cameramen are go!

Spring is sprung here and drizzle still manages to find its way between the sunshine. A beautiful day all in all. Blue sky for the main. Henry Rollins the observant genius of many many things points out that when in Europe he sees all the clouds moving as clouds do. But when he comes to England he realises where they were acutally going. And staying put.
Any way I have come back from New York after conversing with many camera-people and came across the lovely and talented Mr. Jeffrey Chu. He is inspired by the Fulni-o Tale and would love to be involved. Now it is up to us to raise the funds to get us there asap. He has a poets eye.
You can see his previous trailers in the sidebar.
Why didn't I start this tedious fundraising process like normal people, 2 years before lift off? Because it wasn't until I realised they were going to San Francisco that the pieces of the jigsaw fell into place.
I also met another cameraman/DOP called Eric van den Brulle who also has a poets eye, has taken glorious photos of Tibet, Mexico and much more and feel there must be a place for us all in this tale.

Cameramen a caminho!
Primavera está florindo por aqui e uma chuvinha consegue achar seu caminho entre o sol. Um dia todo lindo. Céu azul principalmente. Henry Rollins, o gênio observador de muitas muitas coisas diz que enquanto na Europa ele vê todas as nuvens se movendo como nuvens se movem. Mas quando ele vem para a Inglaterra, ele se dá conta de para onde elas estavam indo. E ficando.
De qualquer forma, eu voltei de Nova York depois de ter conversado com muitos câmeras e ter encontrado o simpático e talentoso Mr. Jeffrey Chu. Ele tem um olhar de poeta, está inspirado pela história dos Fulni-ô e adoraria estar envolvido no projeto. Agora, está nas nossas mãos a tarefa de levantar fundos para nos levar lá o mais rápido possível.
Você pode ver alguns dos trabalhos anteriores deles na coluna do lado.
Por quê eu não comecei esse entediante processo de levantar fundos como as pessoas normais fazem, dois anos antes de dar a partida? Porquê foi até eu me dar conta de que os índios estavam indo para São Francisco que as peças do quebra-cabeças se encaixaram.
Eu também conheci outro cameraman chamado Eric van den Brulle que também tem olhar de poeta, que tirou gloriosas fotos do Tibete, México e muito mais, e sinto que deve ter um lugar para nós todos nessa estória.

Music = Wells ......my elaborate plan

Ok I have this theory - Banda Fulni-o come to San Fransisco and we shoot their heartwarming tale, people hear of the fantastic songs they write. Banda Fulnio's music and Aristides ballads form the basis of the soundtrack for the film. People buy it in droves. The public are enriched, the Fulni-o are enriched and then wells are dug.
We know there is more water in them thar hills. A geologist has said so. We need to find where and try to solve it. A well may need three components to make it fully functional if need be.
1) the well itself
2) a reverse osmosis filter if the water is saline and brackish
3) solar panels for electricity to run the well.
The total cost in US$ max is 25,000 per well. As a community of 800 families about 4-5 wells would be ideal.

Música = poços ... meu plano elaborado
Ok. Eu tenho essa teoria – Banda Fulni-ô vem para São Francisco e a gente filma a admirável história, as pessoas ouvem a respeito dessas fantásticas canções que eles escrevem. A música da Banda Fulni-ô e as baladas de Aristides formam a base para a trilha sonora do filme. As pessoas compram as pencas. O público se enriquece, os Fulni-ô se enriquecem e os poços são escavados.
A gente sabe que existe água nos montes da região. Um geologista disse que tem. A gente precisa descobrir onde e tentar resolver o problema. Um poço precisa de três componentes para que seja totalmente funcional do jeito que precisa ser.

1) O próprio poço
2) Um filtro que reverta osmose se a água for salina
3) Painés de energia solar para gerar a eletricidade que o alimenta.
O custo total em doláres é US$25,000 no máximo por poço. Como a comunidade tem 800 famílias, cerca de 4 ou 5 poços seriam o ideal.

Midnight vision

Why do I want to tell the story of these Fulni-o? Because maybe through this there will be water. Because it is rich and diverse and funny and powerful and tender.
It feels like an opportunity to cover everything I love, helping people, music, healing, entertainment.
Because how often does a whole family of Brazilian Indians arrive on these shores with such a story to tell. An unheard story. No-one knows about the North East of Brazil in the public conciousness and everyone thinks Indians in Brazil have a jungle. Not these ones.
The opportunity to explain the overall water drama to the world is compelling.
It's 3 am in New York and I am ill with flu, sick and feverish and wishing I knew who the person is to shoot this tale with me.
I am dedicated and can learn a new thing every minute but there are professionals out there who can cinematically capture this well.
I think I will go put my feet in a bucket of steaming water - apparently that speeds up the flu leaving the body.

Visão da meia noite
Por que eu quero contar a história dos Fulni-ô? Talvez porquê através disso a água vai chegar. Talvez por causa da diversidade, graça, poder e ternura deles.
Parece que é uma oportunidade de cobrir tudo que eu amo: amor, ajudar as pessoas, música, cura, diversão.
Por que não é todo dia que uma família inteira de indígenas brasileiros aparece por essas bandas com uma grande história para contar. Uma história que ainda não foi ouvida. Ninguém sabe sobre o Nordeste do Brasil, e é parte do consciente do público que os índios no Brasil têm uma floresta. Não esses daqui.
Acima de tudo, a oportunidade de explicar o drama da água para o mundo é encorajadora
São 3 da manhã em Nova York e eu estou gripada, doente, fervendo e eu queria poder saber quem é a pessoa que vai filmar essa história comigo.
Eu sou dedicada e eu posso aprender uma coisa nova a cada minuto, mas existem profissionais por aí que podem capturar essa vontade de forma cinematográfica
Eu acho que eu vou colocar meus pés numa bacia de água quente – aparentemente, isso faz com que a gripe deixe o corpo rapidamente.

Water Dramas

I arrived in New York on Tuesday and am contacting people in an effort to prepare for filming the exceptional story of the Fulni-o.
The Banda Fulni-o which consists of 6 brothers and 2 sisters will arrive in San Francisco for cultural exchange. Music, reggae, healing, shamanism, an experience like no other.
Aristede is not in the band, however he is arriving as spokesperson and shaman.
His music is truly beautiful and I have recorded a few of his songs.
Banda Fulni-o featured in the recent documentary Moro No Brasil.
They have never been on a plane for starters.
So we need to start the tale in Brazil and come to San Francisco by May 15.
Egads.
We have no money right now, but it is going to happen.
I need an experienced camera woman/director to come with me for three months, for expenses and shoot the story of our dreams. Here and in Brazil.
So anyhow, here in NY I got to my apartment and Con Ed shut off the water.
No loo, no shower, no washing dishes, nada.
For a day.
Yuk.
Then in the middle of the night the kitchen started raining with burst pipes.
I thought it was raining outside but it was in the house.
Saucepans and saucepans of murky billion year old pipe goo later, it finally stopped.
Just telling it like it happens.
Water. Don't you love it.

Água Dramas
Eu cheguei em Nova York na terça e eu estou em contato com pessoas em um esforço preparatório para filmar a excepcional história dos Fulni-ô.
A Banda Fulni-ô, que é formada por seis irmãos e duas irmãs, vai chegar em San Francisco para um intercâmbio cultural. Música, reggae, cura, xamanismo, uma experiência como nunca se viu.
Aristides não participa da banda, mas vai estar lá como porta-voz e xamã.
Sua música é verdadeiramente bonita, eu gravei algumas de suas canções. A Banda Fulni-ô apareceu recentemente no documentátio Moro No Brasil.
A gente precisa começar a contar a história no Brasil e depois vir com eles para San Francisco antes de 15 de maio.
A gente não tem dinheiro, no momento, mas isso vai rolar.
Eu preciso de um câmera com experiência, e também de um diretor para me acompanhar por três meses, pelas despesas pagas, para filmar a história de nossos sonhos. Aqui e no Brasil.

De alguma forma, aqui em NY, eu cheguei no meu apartamento e a água estava desligada.
Não tinha banheiro, não tinha chuveiro, não tinha prato lavado, nada.
Por um dia.
Yuk.
Então no meio da noite, começou a chover na cozinha, por causa de canos estourados.
Eu pensei que estava chovendo do lado de fora, mas isso foi dentro de casa.
Panelas e panelas de água escura saindo de canos de bilhões de anos de idade, até que finalmente parou.
Apenas para dizer que coisas como essas acontecem.

Well I took some time off to digest the complications of it all and get on with my responsibilities.
I did manage to spend an hour talking to Yvon Maurice of Proasne, the Canadian - Brazilian groundwater project.

There is much to be learned about the solutions there. In fact they seem in principal to have them all.
Solar panels for electricity to run reverse osmosis filters to clean dirty well water.
Sensing equipment to find water and the means to get into the rock without blasting the hell out of it.

There is a water company there, there are pipes to the houses but no water. It's complicated and I don't fully understand it re: whose land, whose water, whose pipes....etc...

De volta

Tem muita coisa para aprender sobre as soluções. De fato, eles parecem que têm todas as respostas.
Painéis de energia solar para fazer funcionar filtros que limpam poços d’água através do reversamento de osmose.
Equipamentos sensores para achar água e maneiras de penetrar as rochas sem destruir tudo ao redor.
Existe uma companhia de água lá, existem canos até as casas, mas não existe água. É tudo tão complicado e eu não consigo entender tudo: de quem é a terra, de quem é a água, os canos... etc...

Toilets and money and research

Well, a company in NZ makes eco toilets, they can run off a light bulb which is pretty impressive and waterless...just a touch to clean the rim?
Trying to investigate what NGO's, if any are in the Northeast...
Spoke to a man from WaterAid in the UK and he said they only work in India and Africa but he told me the UN has a plan to find ground water in the Northeast and it is sponsored by the Canadian government and World Vision also have small projects....
They need what is called a baseline survey of the area. There is a document by the Sphere project that outlines all the basic questions that need to be answered according to the humanitarian charter for water and hygiene. You can view this at www.sphere.org.
The FUNAI is a government body in Brazil who help indiginous peoples and they have a document that is soon to be released that may answer some of these questions.

Banheiros, dinheiro e pesquisa
Bem, uma empresa em Nova Zelândia faz banheiros ecológicos que funcionam através de uma lâmbada o que é bem impressivo e não utiliza água... basta um toque para limpar as beiras?
Eu tô tentando investigar que organizações não governamentais existem lá pelo Nordeste...
Falei com um homem da WaterAid aqui no Reino Unido e ele disse que eles apenas trabalham na India e África, mas também disse que as Nações Unidas têm plano para achar água no subsolo do Nordeste, que é financiado pelo governo canadense e que World Vision também tem pequenos projetos...
Eles precisam de algo chamado uma pesquisa-base da área. Existe um documento feito pelo projeto Sphere que apresenta as questões básicas que precisam ser respondidas de acordo com o acordo humanitário para água e higiene. Você pode ver isso em www.sphere.org.
A FUNAI é o órgão do governo brasileiro que ajuda comunidades indígenas e eles estão com um documento a ser publicado em breve, que deve responder algumas dessas questões.

This week Aristide and his family are preparing to leave Abadiania and go back to Aguas Belas.

This is for Ouricuri, the sacred ritual that comences in September and lasts for three months. The Fulni-o have managed to preserve this and their language, Yate for the 500 years since the Portuguese arrived.
No-one know what goes on in Ouricuri, it is done on sacred land.
Aristide is leaving now with his wife Gil and two children. Gil is pregnant and cannot travel any later. Each time they make the trip from Abadiania it takes 3 days.

Essa semana, Aristides e sua família estão se preparando para deixar Abadiania e voltar para Águas Belas.
É por causa do Ouricuri, o ritual sagrado que começa em setembro e dura três meses. Os Fulni-ô conseguiram preservar o ritual, assim como a língua deles, por mais de 500 anos, desde que os portugueses chegaram.
Ninguém sabe o que acontece durante o Ouricuri, que é feito em terras sagradas.
Aristides está deixando sua esposa Gil e dois filhos. Gil está grávida e não vai poder viajar – cada vez que eles vão para Abadiania, a viagem dura três dias.

Water water everywhere

Well it's raining alot here in London, with the heating on in June, and in Brazil, hot, dusty and mighty dry.
I just ate and drank and got rained on, had a bath, and a swim.
So what about our water?
Here in the first world we use about 80 gallons a day, flushing loos and washing dishes, bathing, drinking, cooking, laundery, my Dad who is a civil engineer says that they could get away with 10 gallons per person, or even house hold.
Get away with, make do with, how could we manage on 10 gallons a day? I can't bear to live more than 5 minutes from a pool let alone a tap. I am a total water baby. There are roughly 800 Fulni-o households in Aguas Belas. If they piped a river (which is theoretically impossible - 70 km is way to far)it would need to give 8,000 gallons a day and you can only take 5-10% of a river before it's an ecological dilemma.
I had a dream that I was flushing a loo and I was in their town and when I looked down it was a great big well. With a great big pump that flushed and on the back of the well was a sign, 'wellwater'. Hmmmm...
They need to bore down and find the water table and then that usually provides enough for irrigation as well.
As for the long term prospects of life on earth and rain and forests and the water table, well if I start trying to figure out how to solve that I get a headache.
The little film I shot is up and running and I want to go a tell their story.
I am a little worried - o me of delicate stomach. The sanitation for a start. I wonder how much 800 of those totally eco friendly 'don't need water' loos are?

Água, água em todos os cantos

Bem, está chovendo para caramba aqui em Londres, com o calor de junho, e no Brazil, calor, poeira e tudo completamente seco.
Eu acabei de comer e beber, tomei chuva, banho de banheira e nadei.
De onde vem essa água?
Aqui no primeiro mundo a gente usa 80 galões por dia, dando discarga e lavando pratos, tomando banho, bebendo, cozinhando, lavando roupa. Meu pai, que é engenheiro civil, diz que eles poderiam se virar com 10 galões por pessoa, ou até mesmo por casa.

Se virar, sobreviver, como que a gente conseguiria fazer com apenas 10 galões por dia? Eu não aguento viver a cinco minutos longe de uma piscina, imagine de uma torneira. Eu sou totalmente um bebê dentro d’água.
Existem mais ou menos 800 casas de Fulni-ô em Águas Belas. Se eles encanassem um rio (o que é teoricamente impossível, 70km é muito longe para isso), o rio precisaria fornecer 8.000 galões por dia, sendo que você só pode tirar 5-10% de um rio antes que isso se torne um dilema ecológico.

Eu sonhei que eu estava dando discarga num banheiro e eu estava na cidade deles, e quando eu olhei para fora tinha um grande poço. Com uma imensa bomba que piscava, e por trás do poço tinha um aviso: ‘poço d’água’.
Hmmmm...
Eles precisam achar o lençól d’água e isso, usualmente, é suficiente para fornecer o suficiente para irricação também.
Já para o o furuto prospecto de vida na terra e chuva e florestas e lençóis d’água, bem, se eu começar a pensar como resolver isso tudo acabo com dor de cabeça.
O filme curtinho que eu gravei já está no ar e eu quero contar a história deles.
Eu tô um pouco preocupada – com o meu estômago delicado. O sanitário, para começar. Eu fico pensando quantos daqueles 800 ‘eco-amigos’ que não precisam de banheiros com água existem?

How it all began

When I was in Brazil recently, where I have a home, I discovered that a handful of Indians from the Fulni-o tribe were living in my village, Abadiania in the state of Goias.
Aristide is the leader and spokeman of the Abadiania group and he has a heart of a poet but is also an activist.
He has left the tribe in order to try and raise awareness of the dreadful drought that has devastated their community of some 6,000 in Aguas Belas in the northeast state of Perbnambuco. Abadiania is near Brasilia where the government presides.

They were wonderful, hospitable, generous and kind.
In the photos currently available, in some of them they are at a party at my house and whilst we are all having fun, these people are a three day bus ride from their homes and families and feel very isolated.

I came back to London armed with music that I recorded and a video of them performing, dancing and giving a message, with the view to raise funds. Once back, whilst enlisting editors, it was apparent that a documentary was the best plan to show the world their situation.
I am slowly, due to many hours of research, becoming accustomed to the world of cisterns, pipes, wells, and water. Also, funding, fundraising, planning, producing, collating, compiling, computing, viewing, delegating, designing, discussing and sometimes sleeping.

The northeast is semi arid and drought stricken. Twenty three million people suffer the effects.
Rainwater harvesting, pipes to rivers, wells, big bore wells, will a rich Arab fund a desalinisation plant and pipe it hundreds of kilometres inland? I mean you just inquire about everything and anything when you know nothing, as I don't.
They need water for survival, a family can go 8 days before water comes out of a tap.
So this is what we do, we make a film. People see it and want to give, in order to build a pipe, dig more wells, deeper ones, build the biggest cistern ever.....preferably large corporate sponsorship please although all donations welcome.

Como tudo começou

Quando eu estava recentemente no Brasil, onde eu tenho uma casa, eu descobri que um grupo de índios da tribo Fulni-ô, estava vivendo em minha vila, Abadiania, no estado de Góias.
Aristides é o lider e o porta-voz do grupo que estava em Abadiania, ele tem coração de poeta, mas é também um ativista.

Ele tinha deixado a tribo em uma tentativa de alertar sobre a terrível seca que tem devastado sua comunidade de cerca de 6.000 pessoas, em Águas Belas, no nordeste do estado de Pernambuco. Abadiania fica perto de Brasília, sede do governo.

Eles eram maravilhosos, hospitaleiros, generosos e amáveis.

Das fotos que estão disponíveis, algumas foram tiradas em uma festa na minha casa, e enquanto nos estávamos todos nos divertindo, essas pessoas estavam a três dias de viagem de ônibus de suas casas e famílias, e se sentem muito isoladas.

Eu voltei para Londres armada com a música que eu gravei e um vídeo deles dançando e deixando uma mensagem, com o objetivo de levantar fundos. Uma vez de volta, enquanto entrando em contato com editores, ficou claro que um documentário seria a melhor forma de mostrar ao mundo a situação.

Eu estou devargarzinho, devido a muitas horas de pesquisa, me acostumando com o mundo de sisternas, canos, poços e água. Também, com arrecadação de fundos, donações, planejamento, produção, colagem, compilação, computação, vendo, mandando, designing, discutindo e, às vezes, dormindo.

O Nordeste é semi-árido e a seca dolorosa. Vinte três milhões de pessoas sofrem seus efeitos. Coleta de água da chuva, encanamentos até os rios, poços, imensos poços, será que algum árabe rico financiaria o plano de dessalinização e o colocar de canos por centenas de kilômetros até esse interior? Quer dizer, você só pergunta sobre tudo e qualquer coisa quando você não sabe nada, o que é o meu caso.

Eles precisam de água para sobreviver, uma família pode passar oito dias até que a água saia da torneira. Então é por isso que a gente faz, a gente faz um filme. As pessoas verão ele e vão querer ajudar, para que um cano seja construído, assim como mais poços sejam escavados, dos profundos, para que seja construída a maior cisterna de todos os tempos – de preferência um patrocínio de uma grande coorporação, mas toda e qualquer donação é bem vinda.

Fácil! Hmmmm
